KAUBOI has always been a prime date spot for my partner and I. They never disappoint and the service is amazing. We typically sit at the bar since we enjoy watching the chefs cook in front of us as well as talking with Bailey, the bartender. If there is a wait we'll sit at a table or at the cowboy section. Our order consists of cucumber salad, spicy soba noodles, Tokyo fried chicken, shrimp fritter, pork gyoza, chicken thigh and every so often chicken soup gyoza. All of the plates are amazing and our go to. This place is tapas so it's great how we can order multiple items to have multiple flavors. Our entrees are the battleship curry for my partner which is their rendition of poutine with Japanese curry, pork shoulder and mozzarella. I order the duck fried rice and the name speaks for itself. We get a drink and any on their menu is a hit. They also change/edit/add to their menu at least once a year so there's always new dishes to try. We tried the Wagyu steak and cooked at a medium rare accompanied with shiitake mushrooms with a caramel sauce that was a pleasant addition. Price wise is in the higher end but with the food, serve and atmosphere it's always worth it.

Wow!! Our neighbors took us here for our engagement and man was I impressed! We had to wait and hour, so while we waited, we went to a bar nearby and the time went by quick and before we knew it, we were seated. Staff was very friendly and the place was packed. Definitely not what I was expecting though. I expected a quiet romantic setting but it was dark and tables super close together and pretty chaotic but the food was so so amazing. We literally ordered everything so I couldn't even tell you the names but everything was delicious especially the chicken skin. We will definitely have to go again.

We've been waiting to try Kauboi Izakaya for a *while* now and drove by the other night looking for a date night dinner option and we thought they looked closed! (Blinds were just lowered for that late afternoon sun!) Glad I called to ask, and a U-turn later, we were being seated. Yep, the music is LOUD. Very VERY loud. Stranger yet, there were 2 tables with babies near the speakers! So, we knew about the music going in and we weren't expecting an intimate ambiance, and I also acknowledge the din of an open kitchen can contribute to the overall cacophony of noise, but the music could be 20% lower and still give the kick ass vibe they're going for. I said what I said. Now that I've addressed the elephant in the room, on to the food. The marvelous, creative food. We ordered about 1/2 million plates, because of course, things just taste *better* when you share. I jest, but we worked our way around that menu like a Monopoly board. We tried the Hamachi & Asian Pear salad, the 10 layer pork Tonkatsu, the Lamb Gyoza with Carrot/Quinoa crunch, the Charred Beet salad, chicken skin & duck heart yakitoris, and the Kraken, I mean...the lovely charred giant squid. Oh, and cocktails! Of course cocktails, I had a Shiso Quirky and hubby had a lovely matcha/rose thing? Overall, each dish was wonderful! Artfully prepared and well balanced. The skewers were stellar. I'm a sucker for heart yaki but duck hearts?!?! Come on now! The hamachi & Asian pear salad was a little lacking, and as much as I wanted to love it, we both thought the giant squid was almost a little undercooked toward the middle, lending a strange sliminess to the center bites. Tasty, but a little on the rare side. Not a single thing was bad, and the food came out quickly - like speedy fast - and the service was good, too! The whole place was a vibe - great art, fun plates, the soundtrack - hubby said its giving "Tarantino side quest" and I don't think anything could describe it better. Bang, bang, my baby shot me down! And we'd die happy at the hands of this Kauboi after this epic date night meal!

When I heard that I needed to go to Kauboi Izakaya I was not expecting this experience! It was crowded on a Tuesday evening but we got lucky and were able to be seated right away. It does get a bit loud inside but it's definitely a cool atmosphere and a modern japanese vibe. We ordered a beer and a Shiso Quirky. The cocktail was beautiful and so tasty. Then we had the edamame, pork dumplings, wicked fried rice with duck, squid, the sweet potatoes. The only item i'd say you could skip is the sweet potatoes. The bacon tasted a bit burnt to me. But otherwise all the food was amazing! There is a kick to a majority of the items so if you can't handle spice very well just be forwarned. Overall my favorite was the dumplings and the giant squid. We will definitely be back to try some of the skewers and other items!

My husband and I stopped in on Saturday. Usually this spot is packed with a wait but we were able to get seats right at the bar--where you can watch the food be cooked. The food is so so tasty. All the cocktails were great (minus the old fashioned which had too much ice and not much flavor). Servers were really friendly. The BBQ pork rib ramen was amazing! Only advice, don't sit at the bar if you're really tall or plus sized--the seats are bolted down so you'll be squeezed in/sitting at an angle (which I was). Definitely recommend stopping in!

Grabbed dinner with a couple friends on a tuesday night and it was quite crowded but the wait was only about 10 minutes for a table. We ordered the following: Tokyo Fried Chicken: - very good, chicken was fried well and tender and the spicy had a savory-spicy kick. Wicked Fried Rice and Duck: Duck was tender and seasoned well - I loved all of the spices and garnishes (along with the fried egg on top). Wished the portion was a bit bigger though! NY Wagyu + Shitake + Beef Fat Sauce: Star of the dinner - mouthwateringly delicious and tender. The beef fat sauce was rich but light and paired with the mushrooms and the steak well. Pork Bone Ramen: Noodles were a bit too al dente for me and I though this was pork tonkotsu but it is really just pork bone broth - I enjoyed the broth though, very light and sweet The food did take a while to come out and it is quite pricey ($20 for ramen, $26 for wagyu, $19 for the fried rice, and $14 for the fried chicken). One thing to note is that the music is really loud. The place is pretty small, just like in the pictures. There was plenty of parking available across the street when I came for dinner!

We came in around 7:20pm and they were packed! I have heard their food is really good so I had to try even though the wait time was 45 minutes. We were out on the waitlist by a staff member very soon after entering. The interior has dimmed lighting with a large bar seating on the left and about 7 tables on the right. The middle section has stairs I believe goes down to their kitchen. It was a lot smaller than I expected coming here. For parking, I parked across the street and there was a fair amount of street parking since it's a Thursday night. We waited next to the windows and were seated in just over an hour at 8:30pm. We were a group of 3 and there were 2 tables open, but 2 other groups were seated before us. Not too sure if the waitlist was checked. After we sat down, our waters came in about 5-10 minutes and we started ordering because they stop taking orders at 9pm. We ordered: - Giant Squid: soft, not too chewy, comes with yuzu mayo, 5/5 - Charred Broccoli: great flavorful, crunchy and not overcooked, 5/5, definitely recommend! - Wild Shrimp Gyoza: spicy, warm filling, the wrap is thicker than expected, 5/5 - Spicy Soba Noodles: not too spicy, refreshing noodles, comes with perilla leaves, avocado, tomatos, 5/5 - Okinomiyaki: crunchy noodles on bottom, bean sprouts, cabbage, savory pancake, and fried egg on top, 4/5 - Ten Layer Port Tonkatsu: mustard wasabi is very strong, black garlic sauce, moist meat, crunchy outside layer, 5/5, definitely recommend! - Yakitori (Meatball): warm tender meatballs, raw egg yolk as a sauce, 5/5, definitely recommend out of the Yakitoris - Yakitori (Thigh): soft, warm, meat is dryer, 3/5 - Battership Curry Fries: thin fries in a bed of warm curry, comes with very tender meat and cubes of mozzarella cheese, crispy fries, 5/5 Overall, the food was great! The music is very loud and it's hard to have a conversation, but I believe that's their theme. When the check came, it was $190 for 9 dishes, 4 beers and 1 old fashioned. We were not entirely full, but they were closing soon and it is quite pricey. Service and food was good. The only downside was the wait for a table. Each of the dishes came out fairly quickly and we always had something at the table. I think it would definitely help their business to expand to the businesses next door because I watched a lot of people leave after hearing the average wait time was 45 minutes.

This was my second visit with about 6 years between. Went here for a dinner date. Great place to go, food is well presented and delicious. Small and intimate but too loud in my opinion. Pretty tough to have convo without speaking loudly sitting right across from one another. So every one will hear your conversation. We started with the shishito peppers and sake. We had a cold sweet sake and it paired well. Peppers were prepared perfectly. We ordered ramen, hamachi and pork bbq ribs. I am a fan of tapas but as always just know you're not attending to eat "hearty". Overall this a nice dinner or date place, food is great ambiance is nice, servers w were really attentive and friendly it's just loud.
